Why am I angry, you ask?

Hey! Did you hear about the new diet that guarantees you lose 30 pounds in a month? Did you see on Dr. Oz…? My best friend said dairy will make you fat. You should really do a cleanse, you’ll feel so much better…. These statements make me cringe.

We’ve all heard it. Information about nutrition is all over the place, but such a small percentage is actually accurate and worth following. At work and home, I am constantly correcting misinformation that my patients, family and friends have received. I want to be a source of reliable information to help you decipher the mass amounts of information that are available.

Unfortunately, everyone is looking for an easy, quick fix. They want to be healthy/skinny/strong RIGHT NOW. “Diets” yield quick results, but are rarely maintainable lifestyle changes because they involve food elimination or various levels of starvation. My mantra is, “Everything in moderation.” I do not preach diets. I encourage lifestyle changes that are enjoyable, lifelong habits. There is no quick fix when it comes to nutrition. If you are looking to lose weight, you simply need to burn more calories than you consume. If you want to be healthy, you have to eat healthy foods all the time. Not just one week out of the year. No one wants to hear me say that. But isn’t it good news?! Doesn’t that actually sound easier than never eating bread again? Or feeling like you can never enjoy dessert?
